This is a fairly dated presentation on Navy small arms. Slide 5 mentions an "M16A1HB". Never heard of this variant before. Was it some sort of special heavy barrel run for the Navy?

Up to September 2006 the Navy re-barreled quite a few M16A1s with A2 barrels and fore-grips as the A1 barrels wore out.
After October 06 they were able to keep old rifles going by swapping A1 butts with new A2 stocks and upper receivers (simplifying Navy inventory with an M16A3 -- an M16A2 with full-auto instead of 3-round burst).
Thanks. And I thought the USAF was king of the rebuilds.
There was also an original M16A1HB (Model 611) variant, though the posted document refers to the Navy refit. The original 611 came with an M60 bipod and the barrel was a true HB. This is the original configuration of the M16 I have and it's a tank.
They also made an A2 "LMG" variant but I've never handled one of those. IIRC, they may have been fielded by the Canadians?
What if this whole crusade's a charade?
And behind it all there's a price to be paid
For the blood which we dine
Justified in the name of the holy and the divine…
