My wife is very much a fan of the movie and of Rutger Hauer, and I have to say casting him in that role was brilliant.

I expected the sequel to be a huge disappointment, but it wasn't terrible.

It is one of the most accurate depictions of Yakuza and their unique "cosa nostra" traditions and it probably has the most accurate depictions of Japanese swordsmanship in any film. That's a bold statement, but it is probably still true. Makes everything shown in The Last Samurai to be over choreographed nonsense that it is.
It rings a bell and I suspect I have seen it, but that would have been a long time ago if I did.

Which he improvised, making that much more stunning.

He didn't improvise it, but he re-wrote the lines.

My wife just said of the second Blade Runner movie "It sucked". She cracks me up.

Ok. My first post in this thread stated the film was good but not great. That's how I remember it. However, it's been years since I saw it, and my memory of it is fuzzy. After reading the posts here I think I need to give it a fresh look. I had forgotten that scene at the end.

Have watched it a couple times since...generally I like it better overall but there are parts I just dont like, the scenes with the doll/toy maker for one.
I know Im not sophisticated enough, especially back when it first came out...but Id watch it again I guess for free, anyway.
Same for me with ‘Heather’s” and “The Departed”

Also remember that science fiction, at its core, he’s about humanity right now and not really so much about the future. Of course some people use science fiction to try to prove they can predict the future, but that really isn’t the genres strength. It really is a social commentary about the present. In that regard I think blade runner hits it out of the park when you consider what does it mean to be human, and the idea of mortality. And mortality always implies is there something beyond this.

If you need an electron microscope to tell the difference between real life and synthetic life, is there really a difference? The idea of creator is further explored in the later aliens movies.

In someways blade runner is so visually stunning that it kind of distracts you from the messages and ideas inside it. Like going to the Sistine chapel and getting wrapped up in the brushstrokes and not in the theology.

The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

I alluded to it. But yeah, the writing is just another strong part of the film.

I've never seen the original. I have seen the remake and it was ok but nothing that really made me think that I need to watch it again.

The sequel was basically unnecessary and ok. I'll probably never watch it again except to maybe look at Ana de Armas.
