This may not be right for a 77/22 but I love my PA 1-6x rimfire scope with ACSS. Bright and usable with a great reticle. There is 6x one too that might be more appropriate for a nice bolt action?

Before Weaver went all Chicom, I enjoyed their Classic Rimfire line made in Japan.

Both the 4x28 fixed and 2-7x28; also a 1-3x20. I have several on 10/22s and bolt action rimfires.

Nowadays I'd probably look at Leupolds but at the time, the Japanese Weavers were pretty comparable.

For squirrel / rodent wacking, I find that a good fixed 4x works great and is very fast as you never fiddle with the zoom.
