Name and gender change on NFA tax stamp?

I currently don't have any NFA items, but I'm looking to purchase some legally in the future. My one hold up is over the ATF and a few technicalities. Is it possible for a person to revise their paperwork on their tax stamp, to amend their name and gender, after transitioning from one gender to the other? I've used search engines and this sites search features to find an answer, to no avail.

Gotta admit, you got me on that one. But I would ASSUME you could. I would think when people marry….And truth be told, you would probably just send a certified letter, and they would not change your stamp per se. but for the record it would be done.

    Hopefully someone can add.

A name change like an address change is probably a paperwork item updating the database and should work as taking someone's last name through marriage shouldn't require a new stamp. I know not the exact question but a name change regardless.

Gender change is probably not even considered in the laws, but I would think you're not the first to ask. You could call the NFA branch and ask, they are very responsive and significantly more down to earth and friendly than I expected when I had a question about paperwork or process.

NFA branch is probably best option, but there is a reddit sub for liberal gun owners, there are some trans owners that have posted, you might have luck with someone who has dealt with the specific issue there too.

You might also consider setting up a trust and holding that way. Easy to add family or co-trustees to possess in the future, and while you have to submit trustee information just like an individual, the trust is where the stamp is issued, not the person, so it may simply be an easier route than worrying about it later or doing a bunch more paperwork.

If you can change the info on your drivers license, I guarantee you can update a Form 4. As others have said, call NFA branch for exact details.

This is honestly the LAST thing I would let prevent you from getting into NFA stuff. It's almost as important as your shoe size. If you are looking into NFA stuff, move forward.

The point of identification information on a 4473 and on Form 1's, Form 4's, etc. is to help others identify the buyer or holder of a firearm by objectively looking at their physical characteristics. I'd imagine if something is different on the form versus existing records, it's going to throw up red flags. If you knowingly fill out a 4473 or a form incorrectly, it's a crime and you can be prosecuted. I honestly think you're creating a lot of hassle for yourself that will provide no real benefit. If you feel you must change one of your physical characteristics, it would be best to make sure everything's 100% buttoned up legally prior to messing with gun stuff.

Guys. I am a Christian and I suspect my views on gender issues are more conservative than most. But this post is about a specific legal issue and there is no reason to move beyond that.
Let those who are fond of blaming and finding fault, while they sit safely at home, ask, ‘Why did you not do thus and so?’I wish they were on this voyage; I well believe that another voyage of a different kind awaits them.”

    Thank you.

At risk of this being troll bait, no reason to not give grown up answers just in case. If it was troll bait, they finally got the drama they were seeking...sadly.

Yeah it's called being pro second amendment. The person asked a really specific candidly interesting legal question.
Welcome to the NFA world. We need all the voters we can have supporting the ownership of these items. Glad to have you.

I appreciate everyone's input. I was just wondering if anyone had first hand knowledge regarding my question. I'll just email the ATF to see what they say. Then i'll post the answer to help others in the future.
