    DD VS BCM 11.5 Barrel

I’m getting ready to put together an 11.5 pistol build for the truck. This will be for traveling situations, when my main rifle is not an option.

I have narrowed it down to either a BCM or DD 11.5 barrel. For both suppressed and unsuppressed use. (Surefire SOCOM) Which barrel would you choose and why? Looking at 150 yards and in for accuracy. I know that the platform will work further than that, but I can’t really identify past 200 yards. Lol. Thank you for the advise!

I don’t know how DD ports their 11.5” but the one BCM 11.5 I have seen was very overgassed. I replaced it with one of the Colt heavy 11.5s with the.07” port and it was huge improvement.

    DD VS BCM 11.5 Barrel

I don’t know who makes BCM barrels but I do know DD hammer forges their own and I own several examples.

Based on this I would opt for DD.

However, BCM is highly regarded here, I just don’t have a lot of experience with many of their products so I’m a bit biased by simple ignorance.

It is probably a case of you can’t go wrong with either choice.

Between the two, Daniel Defense. As 17K mentioned BCM's 11.5's are extremely overgassed. In fact, this has come up several times over the last few months and each time the gas-drive issues with BCM's 11.5s (and 12.5s/16" mids for that matter) have been mentioned.

If considering others Colt would be a good option, as would a Sionics RGP or Geissele if you can find them.

DD 11.5 has a .69 port. I have shot Gold Dot 62gn, Mk318, M193, Federal 223T3 out of it with no issues. H buffer.

I replaced the 11.5 BCM gas tube with a BRT Reduced tube.
Shouldn’t have been necessary, but is no longer stupid overgassed.
A true "Gun Guy" (or gal) should have familiarity and a modicum of proficiency with most all firearms platforms.

DD seems to have an excellent overall reputation for superior accuracy compared to BCM. If I were building, I would do so using a DD barrel.

    DD VS BCM 11.5 Barrel

I don’t have a BCM SBR and while I’ve never noticed over gassing issues with any of their 14.5 barrels that I’ve had, my MK18 might be my softest shooting gun aside from a KAC MOD2 14.5 with MAMS. The MK18 does have an EBCG but with a 10.3” barrel and LAC 3 prong, I’m always surprised at how good it feels to shoot. I just wish DD would pick up other barrel profiles because I hate the government one, to the point that I’m more likely to get a 14.5 BCM carbine barrel and have it cut down.

Post some pictures and a report once it is built.
