The city issued S&W m10 revolvers and the holsters were kinda low, almost thigh holsters, with a retention lever inside that slid into the trigger guard. To draw you'd need to put the trigger finf into the guard and push the lever as you drawl

It was called the Audley Safety holster or at least from the pictures it maybe a copy or similar idea from a different company. Because all the pictures of the Audley Safety holster I've seen don't quite look like the Philly PD holsters I remember.

They looked a little different than this. Like a typical 70s swivel holster with loops for extra bullets but with that release feature inside the trigger guard

Poking around on this subject I ran in these write-ups I thought were worth a read...

Fighting Leather: The Breakfront, Part I
Fighting Leather: The Breakfront, Part II

There are links to the Clamshell and Jordan style holsters at the bottom of the page and/or within the articles.

Right on, thanks for the input.

Hey, I’m cheap and easy, but can’t help on the eBay thing.

Back when we were issued the Smith 686 4", we carried Safariland 070 SS3 level three security holsters. They were very secure and surprisingly fast with practice.

My dad carried a 4" Colt Trooper MkIII in a Safariland Breakfront with thumb strap for several years, not sure which model it was.
    Reads a lot, posts little.
