I got to put a couple magazines through one a couple weeks ago. Gun belonged to one of our local smiths - Jason Burton. It fired pretty much just like other BHP's I've owned - smooth and accurate and a loooong trigger reset. If anything it was a touch tighter than the FN/Browning Hi Powers I own. Build quality was excellent - in the brief time I held and fired it I could see no obvious cosmetic or machining flaws.

Jason had fully disassembled and inspected the gun and assured me that there were no MIM or cast parts. He had worked the trigger a bit which took it down into the 4's from the 5 lb range. It had a 3 digit serial number - and I suspect it was sent to him as a T&E sample. At any rate I was favorably impressed and very much look forward to taking delivery of mine whenever it shows up at the local shop.

    Good to know, thanks.

If Jason gave his stamp of approval, I'm sure it has to be decent at worst and worth a try.

Best looking handgun ever with a goog pair of wood grips IMHO.
Is it better than the original Belgian guns?

I'd say the answer will almost certainly be yes, if "better" means tighter tolerances and longer lasting and better metallurgy and not biting you and no mag disconnect, better sights, etc.

If better means provenance and a beautiful finish (of say a T-series) then no.

Only way to know is time and rounds downrange. But SA has done this right, as best I can tell after shooting one and talking to a smith who knows more than I do.

Lets see how reliable and durable it is and how well it feeds everything.

    That's all pretty good news.

Very interested in the SA BHP clone. A Belgian BHP was my first semi auto handgun. It shot great and fast. I put a Pachmayr grip on it which I liked much better than the original wood grips.

Forgot to mention in my earlier post that the grip panels were very nice too. Reminded me of my Spegels. Didn't have one of my guns to directly compare but I'd say they were very close if not identical in contour.
