No NFA stuff for me yet, a couple of questions

Please don't make me read every tacked thread above. Just have a couple simple questions:

If I am contemplating SBR'ing a lower that I already own, that is a Form 1, correct?

That involves the fingerprints, notifying local LE, and engraving the lower, correct?

How long are Form 1's for individuals (not a trust) taking if E-filed?

Where can the engraving be put that makes it more "hidden" and not make it look retarded (like having your name and address engraved on the side of the magwell)?

    Thanks guys.

You can have it engraved inside the trigger guard. Probably the most discrete place on the receiver.

Correct, Form 1. You'll need to submit the Form 1 application with prints and photo to ATF.

You can engrave anywhere on the lower. I use Ident Marking Services. They use a very small font and backfill with black so you can't see any shiny aluminum.

EFile form 1’s are taking less than a month these days.
You submit a photo electronically and send via mail the fingerprints with a cover letter you get via email. Once the prints are in and the check/credit card is hit the clock actually starts. You send a copy to your local law enforcement, county sheriff or similar as well and you indicate where on the form.

Last year efile form1 ran 23 days. My last one was almost 20 days from submitted/pending to approval. Single responsible person trust is pretty much the same as an individual time wise on these.

You can engrave on the barrel, frame or receiver. ATF likes to be able to see it without removing anything.

Is that still true with an AR? I know it can be done with HKs because the barrel is attached to the registered receiver. But with an AR the lower is the registered part. Also if you swap different sized uppers you are kinda screwed if the markings are on the barrel.

I've also seen SBR markings on HK receivers on the bottom of the frame UNDER the buttstock as well as on the barrel under the handguards.

For an AR, I'd just do a smaller font straight line on the top edge of the receiver.

The law says barrel, frame or receiver, so yeah, you can.

So what actually happens if you engrave the barrel on your 10.5" upper but then swap over to a 14.5" upper? Are you still good? I guess the serial number of the lower is actually registered. Do you have to engrave every upper you might use in a SBR config if you mark the barrel?

Well yeah, of course you would have to have something engraved. Otherwise, you would be just like anybody getting an SBR stamp and not engraving anything saying “well my lower is registered.”

Reviving this thread as I am NFA stupid.

I just picked up a new BCM complete lower and I want to SBR it as an Individual. As such, I have questions.

    - I'm in Oklahoma. Do I need CLEO approval prior to submission or do I just need to notify?
    - If just notification is required, is that required prior to or after submission?
    - How do I notify my CLEO? Specific form or email or phone? Or does the online system do that automatically when my application is submitted?
    - Do I need to go somewhere to have a passport quality photo taken? Or will any jpeg photo work?
    - How long does it take to get the FD-258 fingerprint cards if I call the ATF directly? Is this the best method or should I purchase them from a website like National Gun Trusts?
    - Can anyone recommend an engraver in Oklahoma? What needs to be engraved on the lower? Full name, street address, city, state, zip code or something more?

Sorry for the amount of questions. I've been reading and watching videos about this for a few days. There appears to be conflicting information from various sources but I knew I could come here for the facts...
