Where are the 20” pencil barrels!?

I can’t seem to source a 20” pencil barrel, and can barely locate a 20” gov. Profile barrel, of which I currently have no interest. Is anyone aware of any in stock pencil barrels of a 20” persuasion?

Faxon Gunner profile is 1.67 pounds but quality control is inconsistent so be prepared to exchange the barrel as needed.

it’s out of stock, that aside I have taken issue with the company as I had a bad experience with them when I used that exact barrel for an A1(ish) build I assemble for my dad as a gift. There was no huge catastrophic issue, but the length from gas port to muzzle was slightly off, which meant when a M7 bayonet was mounted to the FSB I had pinned on, it didn’t line up right distance wise. The relationship between the 3 prong A1 FH and the guard on (by a very competent gunsmith that does a lot of work on retro AR’s) the M7 bayonet wasn’t correct. I took pictures and contacted faxing, there rep said they would replace it and then dropped contact with me shortly afterwards.

So I’m not interested in purchasing anything from them. All manufacturers make mistakes, but when a rep claims they will correct the problem that’s their fault and then goes cold and doesn’t. Well, that will be the last thing I purchase from them if at all I can help it.

If you can find one, buy an A2 profile barrel and have someone like John Thomas or ADCO turn it to A1 profile (including the gas block area and provide them with a 0.625" FSB to pin in place). Viola'.....an A1 profile, chrome lined, 1:7 twist barrel that has the M16A1 look but can fire the modern, heavier ammo too.

Here's one you could work with:

John Thomas is the man, I have used his services in the past, but I don’t think he could refinish / phosphate the barrel?

According to his website he does do parkerizing:

    (scroll down to shop services)

If I couldn't find an A1-clone barrel, that's exactly what I'd do. Buy a chrome lined A2, have it turned down to pencil profile, the gas block to 0.625, buy a 0.625 FSB, and have it all parked. Wouldn't be cheap but you'd have what you want plus the added benefit of being able to shoot the more modern heavier ammo.

Hey, I paid $450 for a Hodge Defense barrel so the above would certainly come in under that!
