Colt 65-- Series Colt AR-15 A2 Lower Receivers

Looking to finish up a project and I am in need of a lower for it. I'd like a lower like the one pictured below, but I have some questions about these lowers. (I do not own the rifle pictured).

Did Colt ever make this lower receiver (A2 lower, non slabside, with the AR15-A2 roll mark) that used the standard .250 front pivot pin assembly like the one pictured (or one that's easily swapped for a .250 pivot pin assembly), that ALSO has the mil-spec 0.154 fire control pins instead of the common ban era 0.170 fire control pins?

I've come across a few that had the .250 front pivot pin, but it seems like all of the ones I've seen (whether they have the pinned sear block or the machined sear block) use the large 0.170 fire control pins.

If what I'm looking for exists, is there a date or serial number range to look for, or is it the typical Colt smorgasbord?

Looks like a Colt Defense (2013 date) 6520 to me. Should be identical to all 2004-2013 Colt 6520s except for lack of LE Only rollmarks and M4 stock instead of Rogers Space stock.

Steyr, thanks for the info. I had no idea they offered the 6520 that late. The rifle pictured looks to have standard sized trigger pins to my eyes, but it may be my eyes messing with me. To your knowledge, would there have been any of these late 6520's with the mil-spec trigger pins instead of the large pins? I know Colt supposedly stopped using the large trigger pins after 2009, so any made from 2010-2013 would theoretically have the mil-spec trigger/hammer pins, correct?

I have a (small) .250 front pivot pin 16" Colt 6520 upper receiver with a lightweight barrel that I'm needing a lower for, and one of these lowers with the mil-spec sized hammer/trigger pins seems like it would be the ticket. I just wasn't sure such a thing existed.

I am unsure of the hammer/trigger pin size. I just know they stopped using the LARGE SCREW pivot pin at some point (probably in 2002) with the creation of Colt Defense as the guns were LE only with the Clinton ban still in place. With the 2013 run Colt Defense removed the LE Only marking from their rifles (including factory SBRs) and around the same time replaced the M4 style stock with the Rogers stock. Certainly some overlap exists but that's generally reliable. Colt Defense ceased to exist in 2015.

So I would think a LE marked 6520 lower should have everything you need, probably including mil spec trigger / hammer pins. Should be able to search photos and specs for those rifles.

    6920 are marked M4 Carbine
6721 are marked A3 Tactical (pretty sure)
6520 are marked as as above.

Btw, pretty sure the 6520 is still offered but not sure what exact config and I know it is marked Colt Manufacturing as are all rifles these days. However with everyone moving to flat tops, they might have phased them out for the 6720.

Yes. I have two consecutive serial numbered lowers in the LGC031xxx area that are exactly as you describe and like the photo you posted. Another in the LGC005xxx range has LARGE trigger pins.

I have a slew of other "AR-15A2 Gov't carbines" all from 1993 onward; ALL have the standard pivot pin, though most still use the non captive pin.... Only the early "civilian" market ones from 1995ish and earlier have a sear block..

Having said that, if your idea is for cloning, you are probably SOL. The more modern ones with everything you want are black in color, marked defense, and have the newer lower shape that appeared around 2002.

Personally, the large trigger pins doesn't bother me.. The triggers rarely break, and there are enough after market options, past and present... Everything from modern Geissele to NOS Eagle Arms / Armalite.

I appreciate the information guys. I didn't know there were multiple lower forgings for the AR-15 A2 Gov't Carbine's until it was mentioned here. The Colt variation rabbit hole is a deep one. I may have to give up the standard sized fire control group for the older style lower for this build. I'm going to try and find one in decent shape if I can.

Interesting factoid. That sear block is pinned exactly where the sear hole would be drilled.
