Exactly like the bottom one with the cutout so speedloaders have better clearance.

Appreciate the thought but wrong size and I'm looking for nice, newish grips. Old smiths look to good.

I think those were called combat magnums

I have a 28-2 with the grips like Arik's bottom pistol except it has the football. Looking at them closely, I believe careful work with a sanding drum would get you what you need. The top line of the football appears to be a perfect match with your cutout and would make a nice guide. add linseed when your done and no one would know.
Would that make your search easier?
Mine is a shooter and I run rubber grips, but I may do this to the originals. On mine the wood is good but the finish is bubbled from age anyway, so steel wool and oil is needed anyway.

Combat Magnums are the 19 series which is a K frame .357. What we are talking about is target grips which come in two variations, football indentations and the ones with the cut outs. The footballs are also known as coke grips and are probably correct on a 27.

But I learned to prefer cutout target grips with the 29 and want my 27 to match.

Ah! Gotcha! I know enough about Smiths to know what I'm looking at. I even used to know S# ranges for some more common models but I never got into grips. Always thought "combat magnum" we're the ones that looked like that. Obviously scaled up/down depending on frame and "cokes" were the thin ones with the medallions

Have you looked at any of the Hogue offerings in wood?

    https://www.hogueinc.com/grips/grips...ers/squarebutt

Amazon is also has some available for decent prices.

    https://www.amazon.com/n-frame-grips...e+grips&page=2

Craig seems to have a waiting list, but there are lots of options.

    https://www.craigspegel.com/#grips

These are most likely expensive, but nice. I have a set on one of my P7's.

    https://www.nill-griffe.com/Revolver_Grips_29.html

    Then there are these.

    https://grips4guns.com/handgun_grips/K_L_Square.html

But I'm probably just repeating everything you've already seen. Might try posting a WTB add over on the S&W forum as well.

Also, this cat does custom grip work and at least used to have medallions. ksdgripsusa at gmail.com

I've looked at a lot, Don't want anything with finger grooves or otherwise non standard / custom.

I've got some "maybe" options from this thread which is more than I had when I started.

Ok, to help keep things clear. This is what I'm after.

The Craig grips are sorta close, but I'm not trying to get too exotic. I could live with rosewoods but would want the classic checkering and medallions.

Factory S&W seem to be $200, Alta Mont grips have something really close but unfortunately they are also engraved.
