Federal 55gr LE223T1 or something else?

Bought a good bit of these a few years back. Is there any reason I shouldn't use them in a HD role? It would be used in both a 10.5 and 12.5 guns.

This is not the only ammo I have to use. Others include:
    BH 77gr SMK
    Barnes 62gr TSX 5.56

Would you choose one of those over the other?

    Thanks,
    A.B.

It’s not at the top of current barrier performance choices, but it’s still a good barrier blind load that I wouldn’t worry about replacing.

That’s a very good way to describe it. Well said.
AQ planned for years and sent their A team to carry out the attacks, and on Flight 93 they were thwarted by a pick-up team made up of United Frequent Fliers. Many people look at 9/11 and wonder how we can stop an enemy like that. I look at FL93 and wonder, "How can we lose?". -- FromMyColdDeadHand

If autoglass is a concern then you want to go with as heavy a barrier blind load as you can get since you want as much bullet as possible making it through. If its just HD and less concern for autoglass then 55gr TBBC is just fine.

Is that the .223 version of the vaunted "FBI round"? The ones I have are basically a "Trophy Bonded Bear Claw" loaded to 5.56 pressure. The nomenclature is XM556SBCT3

Disregard, I saw you were referencing the 55gr flavor. Sorry.

Same bullet. The XM series are rejects. Many have complained about poor accuracy with those. That SBCT is a charge optimized for short barrels.

For HD use and ranges any reputable soft point/hollow point/bonded bullet will be devastating on an assailant. The only type of round I would stay away from are the fast expanding varmint type bullets that would have questionable performance through any type of barrier.

Heavier projectiles seem to perform better out of shorter barrels.
LE223T3 if you’re dealing with barriers.
    LE223T1 if you’re not.
Overall and generally speaking, solid copper performs better than lead, especially heavier.
I am issued LE223T3 and I have no complaints.

I’m a firm believer in stacking the deck in my favor. A few mags of better performing (but just as important much more consistently performing ammo) is not a significant cost.

Put another way, if someone breaks down your door looking to harm you or your family would you rather a mag of better ammo in your rifle or some more M193 in your basement stash?
