Can you use Redding Decapping Pins Undersized (0.057")?
Can you use Redding Decapping Pins Undersized (0.057")?
Thanks. I wish I knew NOW if the small flash holes will be fruitful; AND with which primer.
Checking in over at accuratshooter.com. They seem to have several threads on this stuff.

My boxes say the same thing. My decapping pin that came with my set for reference.

That's perfect. Apparently the flash holes now are indeed .062". The original brass in the gold boxes was .059"
Either way, my bolt gun dies are mostly too big, and Lee doesn't make a .057" I may just get a whole new decap die and the pack of pins mentioned above.

My Redding 6.5 CM pins are 0.575." My Laupa brass is labeled as being a flash hole of 0.059." I have a Redding 6.5 Grendel set which measures 0.0615" on the pin though that cartridge also uses small primers (also Lapua).

Finally 3 sub MOA test groups with 6.5 CM. My guess is those damned BR primers were Effing me again, but who cares? I finally have a tree to bark up!

It isn’t the primers, it’s the overall load. The best groups in the world are shot with BR-4s. Come on, you got this!
What did it measure? Seems like lots of horizontal.

Horizontal is absolutely me/shooter. I don't mind that so much. Vertical makes me nervous. These are 150gr Sierras running 2609 S.D. 7, and 2628 S.D. 3, the former having less vertical stringing.
Years back I did a complete primer test on .223 out here on the high power range with, I think, 6 different primers. BR-4s were, by far, the worst for me. Now I'm sure in other loads they work great for people.
We could simply have trottled back into a node, and the primers might be irrelevant. I did get some more of this FC brass yesterday, so I might as well shoot the primers head to head next time. I do like testing variables when things are going good. I'll probably load up 10 pieces of Lapua too.
I'm still reluctant to be satisfied YET because 6.5 had been anything BUT consistent week to week with any gun and any load (including factory stuff) We've shot it out to a mile on good days, and struggled to get any hit at 1300 on other days.
But I'm glad to see such dramatic improvement from last weeks disappointment.

I learned some things from this video on reading groups Mark. The content covers both reading holes as well as reading groups.
You might find some insights here as well. You are far more experienced than I am so you might already know all of this stuff.

Yeah. Our problem lately is that we've really felt sloppy in the fundamentals. Lackluster trigger follow through, etc. We're talking about shooting some rim fire and dryfiring in the dark, etc. All the old slick tricks to true up our shooting skills a bit.
