    BE Meyers Kiji Illuminator.

Read about a new standalone illuminator. It looks like it uses similar laser illumination technology to the MAWL C1+, but with more power, less adjustability, and waaay cheaper. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/...l-illuminator/ It should be very useful for those currently using separate lasers and illuminators as an alternative to Modlights and Vamps. Also, dudes with ATPIAL-Cs, DBAL A3/i2s, or TLR VIR IIs would be able to get a lot more reach.

Also found out about a new revision of the MAWL C1+ that has a little more illuminator power, tighter illuminator divergence, and some changes in the activation modes. I don’t find it interesting enough for its own thread, but I’ll start one if this one gets too busy.

These guys were at the night match I was at last weekend. I'm not ready to spend $700 on a flashlight quite yet, but have to admit that it was great stuff.

The elephant in the room is why you would need that much power unless you had a full power laser aimer to go with it. At any range where a low power aimer is going to be bright enough, my vampire in IR mode is enough illumination. Actually, the vampire looks very similar to his KIJI with the diffuser on it. The low power aimers are only good to about 50 yards, or possibly 100 if you're really pushing it and conditions are right. I'm thinking the use case for these is maybe helmet mount or handheld to be used purely for observation. I could see there maybe being a need for that to avoid having to point a loaded weapon at something just to see what it is.

I haven’t used the Kiji, but the MAWL’s 0.7mw aiming laser has enough reach for more illumination than a Vamp can offer. There are other IR devices with the same power laser as the MAWL, but with crummy illuminators.

Is the MAWL's laser more powerful than a PEQ on low power?

Real PEQ-15? Nominally, its 0.6 on low vs the MAWL’s 0.7 in power. In practice, they’re basically the same. I just pulled both out, and I wouldn’t be able to say which is which.

My experience with the PEQ on low setting is that the laser doesn't reach much further than an LED illuminator. At least practically speaking. It's one thing when you're just sitting there shining it at a blank wall 300 yards downrange, but when you're using it, trying to pick it up more or less instantly, on non planer surfaces, it doesn't have much range. Especially when paired with illumination that's going to wash it out quite a bit.

Truly innovative design for passive use on carbines and to support CNVD's. Nothing compares to the MAWL illuminator for clean IR illumination or technology.

Don't the RAID-X and NGAL as well as the BOSS-Xe also use vcsel based illuminators?
