The SOCOM556 RC2 is 6" long and adds 3.8" to the weapon depending on which Surefire adaptor is used. What that means is, it adds about 3.8" measured from the end of the muzzle device. From the end of the barrel, it adds almost 6". It would make an 11.5" barrel about 17" and a 14.5 barrel about 20".

and the SOCOM556 MINI2 adds +2.5” to the overall length of an AR (barrel).
The mini is 5" long and will make a 11.5" barrel about 15" long and a 14.5" barrel about 18"

Keep in mind, 17” is about as long as a 16” plus A2 flash hider. Reviewing the math, a SOCOM RC2 on a 11.5” gun is like a tenth or two longer than a 16” gun with an A2, or shorter than a 16” gun with any of the more popular muzzle devices. I’m not saying that you should go that route or not, just clarifying the math.

Edit: somewhat relevant to the thread, I just finished twisting a MG7k onto a 14.5” on a “precision” upper with a 1-8x. Also, shot a field match with a 14.5” and a 30SDk like two weeks ago. So it’s safe to say that I treat 14.5” guns with cans like most people treat 18” guns with bipods. Current setup is exactly as long as my 18” with an A2. Additionally, earlier in my career the NT4 and 14.5” M4 made me skeptical of suppressors because of weight and length. So I’d suggest a 11.3-12.5” for a general purpose gun.

Whatever you say, guy. You got my point.

Thank you! That’s all I needed and illustrates the point I was trying to make. The difference in overall length between an 11.5 SBR w/ RC2 vs. a 14.5 p&w w/ MINI2—given the numbers Surefire gives us—is 1”-2”, depending on who you ask…

Next time I have a weird random question or thought… I should just ask for a picture.
Yet it is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succor of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till.

I have a Sandman K that I throw on an 11.5" every once in awhile. It's almost like not having a suppressor...I wish I had gone the 13.7 route and put the Sandman K on that instead.

If you didn't already have the Sandman K do you think the Nomad-30 would be a better match for the 11.5?

Welcome. I actually had about 1/2” cut off the 14.5” so it’s actually closer to 14”. So with the Surefire Closed Tine Warcomp pin and welded on it’s exactly 16”. If that makes sense. The Surefire Closed Tine muzzle device runs a little long.
