My reply: True... the other factor is we KNOW that WHEN the pendulum swings the Left would use it as an excuse for "All right, Payback Time bitches, Kristallnacht 2.0 here we come!" Personally I could support a President briefly and only NON-lethally (read: "do nothing irreversible") serving them up a heaping helping of their own shit, then citing their own precedents and saying "all I did here is exactly what YOU did at X, Y and Z, can we now agree that such things must forever be off the table to ALL sides?"

The problem is, having a George Washington-esque figure with the restraint to turn it off afterward, and Trump is petty enough I don't see him willingly return to the leash once he slips it.

We have legit political prisoners being held with out bail in solitary, and political hacks demanding access to your own diary. What exactly is he afraid of losing. F em. I think his concern, and one I share is, once you let the tyrannosaur out of its cage to dispose of the marauding raptors how do you herd it back in again once the job's done? The only thought that came to mind was to have Congress at the same time as they take the leash off pre-process an Impeachment with a clear message of "either you renounce these powers by noon 90 days from now or at 12:01 we vote to remove you from office."
