    M&P Slide failure

Well, it finally happened. The slide on my 1st gen M&P 9mm failed. While I was cleaning it Saturday I noticed a fairly large crack and partial separation of the slide rail beginning right at the front of the slide stop notch and running parallel to the rail about a 1/2" long to the front, it's right in the area of the front left frame rail . That piece of the slide is still attached, but I doubt for long if I keep shooting it. If it does fall off I think the gun might or not keep shooting. Smith and Wesson is closed until 1/3, I'll call then. The last time I called them was a pretty long time a go on a 29 I own and needed a new barrel, which they replaced, no problem. We'll see how that life time warranty works, I bought this gun in 07'. For those interested, I'll report what's going on in this process from time to time. I think this might take a while but I'll see.

By the way, I have. easily, 25k through this gun.

This is a known issue isn't it? Or was it the rusting slides from improper finish?

I think you're thinking of the early rust issue. I have never had that issue. And I'm not aware of any broken slide rail issues out in the world.

Gotcha. I made the assumption from your comment about it "finally happened" that it was a known issue.

Yeah a bit misleading. I was thinking more like something major happen to it "finally".

Sounds like they should send you a complete 2.0 pistol as I don't think they make the 1.0 slide. They may have a few left over though.
