Edit: Now I'd love to see how the 300 HAM'R compares to the 277 Wolverine! 30cal 110gr out of the blackout was around 2200-2300fps out of a 10" I believe so I'd be curious what the 300 HAM'R would take that same bullet to.
Is the 300 Ham’r available outside of Wilson Combat? I know for a while they were the only game in town.

Wilson Combat sells a variety of barrels form 8" to 18" and the 11.3" is under $200 at the moment.

Why such odd lengths? And why hasn't anyone else jumped on the barrel making bandwagon? Faxon...BA....?

    What is odd about them?

The .300 HAM'R was only SAAMI ratified last year. Barrel companies are probably still catching up with other orders.

    No 10.5...No 14.5

Two much more popular lengths than 8", 11.3", or 18".

The other thing that gets me is during my 300 ham'r searching I came across yet another...7.62x40. But it seems WC has completely abandoned interest in it and has moved on. So does that mean in a couple years this cartridge will also be forgotten?

11.3" was probably found to the the correct length for proper dwell time with a carbine length gas tube. An 8" was added later due to requests for an even shorter barrel.

With the proliferation of pistols is 14.5" still popular? I guess that 11" to 12.5" sell more now.

If you read the history of the 300 HAMR, it is basically a tweaked 7.62x40.

I think you don’t see much chatter about 6.5 Grendel cause it’s not new, doesn’t mean it’s not in use.

Used to see a lot of threads about .458 Socom, now not so much, but no one’s abandoning it. I don’t see much chatter about 6.8 spc, it’s still in use and easy to find on the shelves.

I got into 6.5 Grendel for the steel case, fortunately have a bunch stacked so we’ll see what happens.

Bill Alexander got Barnaul to make it, so it’s possible a country that’s not banned from import can start making it.

6.5G is a great long range caliber, flat shooting like 5.56 with 123 gr. bullets.

I shoot it out of a 20” and a 12”, and while I’m not going out to 500 yards I see no difference in drop.

But I don’t reload so if steel case goes away then I’m probably done with 6.5G.

If 200 yards is your max range, there’s lots of other calibers.

300hamr though is like 125c/rnd brass, aac is getting near 74c/rnd brass.

I'd get 300 prc bolt, or stick with the common ar15 rounds, or stomach the cost of boutique ammo.
