I have a early 80s bright stainless 6 and a 2020 6. Never really cared for the look of the short barreled Python until I saw the 4.25 barrel and that one has really grown on me. Not sure I will ever get fully on board with the 3.
Guess I will need to see one first, but to me the Python looks best with some barrel on it. But that is just me.

Years ago I had a 3" Python, and a 3" 19. To me those are two of a small number I've regretted trading off. Those are the grail of revolvers. I've put fingerprints on several new Colts and Smiths and just can't get excited. They don't call my name.

I agreed with you on the Colt Detective, because it held 6 rounds V J frame 5.
I don't agree on the model 19. You could shoot them with duty rounds at the time ours was 125 grain .357 mag., I cracked a frame twice one was a 19 and the other was a 66 which died in 6 weeks.
I then started my search for the best 357 revolver for police work, that is when I found the Davis company Cougar a Ruger security six with the best revolver action ever. The action was so good I shot this gun in PPC, and sold my match gun. Mine had a 6" Python barrel on it. I should have also bought a 4inch but was stupid at the time. But I understood that in 357 handguns velocity is what matters. Which is why I am interested in the 65 grain Leighi Defense in both 9mm and .357sig.

go 6 or stay home! Python only looks good with 6" barrel
I think that there is not a sexier revolver then a Python. I carried 4" Armoloy model for a few years in the 90's. After a fair amount of shooting it went out of time. After that I started carrying a 4" 625 as revolvers were still what we had to carry.
After many years I still very much prefer S&W revolvers, as long as they don't have a hillary hole in the side. I still have a 1974 nickeled Dick Special. I'm not sure I ever preferred it to the Centennial's I carried as back ups but if you were only carrying a small revolver I would have preferred it.
My fascination with N frames runs deep and from long ago. At one time I had 5" N's in .38, .357, 10, 44-40, 44 Spec, 44 Mag,, 45 ACP, and 45 Colt. Now I'm down to a pair of 4" 625's and a 1917 from 1918.
