A 1.5" group at 50 yards is not 1.5 MOA
50 yards my BCM barrels are .5" shooters and smaller with 1-6 and 2x prism. I use a range bag to shoot off of. I do handload for accuracy and have found 55 vmax and 24.7 grs of benchmark to be my hornady tap recipe shoots very well. I also use Larue mbt triggers in all my ARs.

The OP asked what he should expect with his barrel/ammo combo. In my experience with both, I would expect ~1.5 MOA at 100 yards, the distance I suggested that he shoot next.
You're correct, 1.5" at 50 yards is not 1.5 MOA, but I don't think he should be shooting at that distance to evaluate accuracy anyway, especially with a magnified optic.
So you thought mounting a scope would make the rifle more accurate?? It doesn't work like that in the real world.
I think the OP said he thought he would be able to "shoot" more accurately, rather than that the scope would make the rifle itself more accurate. Scopes do help you to see.
Shooting a rifle without solid front and rear rests doesn't test the rifle.....it tests the shooter.
Use a bipod (or some other rest) and rear bag, and your results may be very different.
My 16" ELW barrel delivers slightly above MOA with 69 grain FGMM and my handload with 63 grain GameKings. I've done limited load development with Gold Dots. I've not been impressed yet, but the worst group is better than 3 MOA.
OP, you wont know anything until you use a rear bag, SOLID front mount like a sand bag or firm bag, and match grade ammo.
Truth be told, a good 2 stage trigger will improve things too, but using a rear bag and good ammo is a start.
I’d say you have an 1.5” capability at 50. I don’t think the barrel or optic are the limiting factor. Likely a combination of shooter and ammo.
The ELW uppers are so light and rear weight biased that they are pretty unforgiving to shoot.
I also think that you will see improvement the further you shoot. The PNT trigger isn’t ideal for fast accurate shooting, but they’re generally plenty smooth enough if you’re not in a hurry.
