Rather than CA taking the full brunt of the costs they’re spreading it out nationally and way over market price elsewhere.

Cabelas has become worthless since being bought by Bass Pro.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but our BPS is selling 9mm FMJ for $80/200 or 50/$22. .223 FMJ for about $13-14/20 and 12 GA BS for $9/25. The 9mm is $10-12 cheaper per 50. 12 GA $3-4, and .223 10-12 cents cheaper per round than the other LGS I've been in.

OTOH, I *will* give them credit for one thing... on an order where they put my toolkits (the Real Avid Field Pack for Ruger 10/22) on markdown RIGHT after I placed my order, they price-adjusted my order to the new price. Overall the company may not be what they used to be but they still have people who are trying.

So, what happened here?

Looks like the FTC told Great Outdoors Group (parent company of BPS and Cabelas) that they would not approve the merger. FTC was pretty lax about this sort of merger in the past, but seems to be taking a stronger stance going forward. Great Outdoors will have to pay Sportsman's Warehouse $55m as a termination fee.

Of course, share prices of SPWH dropped on the news, but it seems to be back up a bit over the last couple days. I like SPWH...I'll keep my eye on it.

We've got Cabelas, Scheels, Bass Pro, Dicks, Big 5, etc all within an hour of our Sportsmans and yet it still seems to do well. I do really enjoy Scheels, especially with the family, but for some reason I feel like supporting Sportsmans as it feels like the "little guy".

Yeah, I expected the Scheels just down the street to kill them off, but they were still chugging along last time I was in there. I moved the hell out of CO a few months back, but I imagine they're still doing fine. After Bob Jensen retired, anything I needed that didn't come from Uncle Larry, came from Sportsman's. I like that store a lot. There's one in Murderquerque off of I25 that I pop into when I get a chance, but so far I don't get over that way all that often.
