Colt Woodsman Match Target - again

Literally three weeks after bringing home my ‘63 Woodsman MT for $ 520, same LGS had a nice 1940 model for $ 535. Guess what I did ?

Back in time when “America’s Great Gun House” was on 5th avenue in New York City, imagine that

    The Woodsman Match Target pair

As usual, straight to the range, 25 m

I do believe they were the largest firearms importer of the 20th century, I'm pretty sure Golden State Arms in CA was the second largest.

Hard to imagine, sadly. Funny I also have a 1940 Shooters Bible as was as a 1963 date on some early 70s. They all belonged to my father and they contain some wonderful history.

Thank you for preserving these historical firearms in a responsible manner.

How in the world is it that gun prices seem to be lower in Switzerland than they are here in the US?

Looks like a kings custom based on the sights and grips. Both of those guns would bring double to triple that price in the states.

No sporter clause. They can literally import anything.

So there are no pre68 "no import mark" imports, no preban (1989) firearms or things like that. Some items are simply hard to come by and I'm guessing Colt 1903 and 1908 pocket pistols are probably minor grail guns, but without legislation preventing imports things are at global market prices.

Different market with a lot less demand, especially for vintage guns. Collectors are not getting any younger, many passed away in the last couple of years and large gun collections appear on the market.

New guns are more expensive, the new Python is sold for over $ 2500, whereas I bought my blued 1977 6” for under $ 1900

Correct, no SBR, NFA restrictions, assault weapons ban etc..

An import mark is required since a few years, even for older guns. Luckily it can be applied under the grips.

    Now about the M 1903 …
