LOL. I used to do that. Someplace had those bright yellow plastic tool boxes and a upper and a lower fit perfectly. There was also a top tray that was almost custom made for 30 round mags, I think it held 6.

Post hurricane and similar, that was in the seat next to me all the time.

There are much better options. A backpack fits in in almost any environment. A toolbox doesn't.

We could probably debate pros and cons for a month. Backpack probably draws more attention than a tool box. People have come to associate them with shit like bombs at Boston marathons. Backpacks are more likely to contain expensive electronics and other objects making them a more likely target of theft vs. a crappy plastic tool box which most people assume will be full of crappy Made in China tools.

But at the end of the day, it's just another option. It may or may not be optimal for you and your needs. Worked great for me back in the day, did better in the rain and stuff like that.

Another good option: those carry cases that folding chairs come in. Very common for people who attend HS sporting events, outdoor concerts, the beach, etc., to have in their car. No padding so your gucci rifles might be uncomfortable but they are baggy and hide in plain sight. Also bat bags.

Lol not even close. Backpacks are literally carried everywhere by all kinds of people of all ages. Outside of a job site or construction zone when was the last time you saw someone just randomly carrying a plastic toolbox around?

Tool boxes get stolen… for tools.

Back pack over a tool box, unless you can have a clipboard and hard had too…..
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

Yes, tool boxes commonly contain tools and tools are a hot theft item. Dudes hang out in Home Depot parking lots waiting for tradesmen to park and go in. Any tools are a quick smash and grab.
When I'm looking for something to hide in plain sight I want something that doesn't look especially valuable. Or maybe it blends in with it's surroundings.

I don't think there is enough here to justify a meaningful debate. It's a very time and place consideration. Yeah, walk into a diner and a backpack is much more low profile. Maybe it was just my "post hurricane" environment I was thinking about. Lots of people walking around with lots of tool boxes.

For a time laptop bags were the best, less common today. I've seen lots of variations on the theme.
