I'm a Xennial, buckaroo. Not my fault that quality and class is something you can't afford. I have my modern cutting edge stuff too. But hey, variety is the spice of life.

Is that an MMC fixed combat sight on the 1911 and is the checkered front strap retained by the bushings or welded/epoxied?

Disclaimer, I'm not a boomer, but close. The generation that you speak of waded into critical incidents with just revolvers carrying 18 rounds TOTAL on them. Then there was a 5-roundish pump shotgun in the car. Back-up was several minutes away. Oh, yes... Most did not have body armor then either.
, which was very much needed after the morning I have just had,

You put a smile on my face. Where I worked, when I started it was a revolver department issue revolvers was a variety of .357 mag and issue ammo was 125 grain magnum ammo. I would say maybe 50% wore back up guns and maybe 30% carried assault rifles in the trunk of the car.

I had been working a while and decided to add one more speed loader to my gun belt. Needless to say roll call was a Yoni roast. Backup was 5 minutes best case scenario away for the cars on the westside of the prcnt. On the east side the districts were bigger and it was maybe 10 to 15 minutes and then we had one district that was on the other side of the freeway and river. 1 way in and the vast majority of deputies had no clue where anything was it was place that the roads were set up by a bunch of drunks. So back up was at least 25 minutes away if they could find you. That same district today has like 6 cars per shift. But it was funny how we got things done back in the day.

These threads really make me wish I had a nice bbq gun with a gucci leather holster. It’s not too late but I’m already committed on a long range precision build at the moment. Maybe some 1911 10mm iron will be my next midlife crisis gun.

These are just the classic cars of the gun world. And if your occupation required you to roll a crown vic for 30 years you might want to drive a GTO when that BS is over.

While it may not be optimum, there is nothing wrong with a 1911 for every day carry. And if you are willing to accept the limitations, there is nothing wrong with a wheel gun for every day carry. How many bubbatards are still carrying a Taurus Judge? Give me an old Smith any day.

I agree with you that EDC is going to destroy that beautiful blue, but if you have a 64 corvette what are you gonna do...not drive it? Again all these things wouldn't be my first choice, but it's not like they went back to cap and ball shit.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

Sounds like we worked for very similar agencies back then. Half the guys carried wheels (me), and the other half carried self-smithed 1911's that may or may not stove pipe every 15-20 rounds. Silvertips... Yup.

I felt like a new man when I saved up and bought a P-226. I even went "high-tech" and was the first officer in the department qualified to and carried an AR... An SP-1 carbine which was still pretty up to date back then.

    Good memories. Stay safe!

I fired IDPA one time with a guy who used his revolver, he could make that Smith work. Very Impressive.
