I kind of feel like the bureau and all of us keep forgetting that we are their bosses. If they are making moves that are not beneficial in our eyes we need to put a hard stop to it or take firearms out of there purview. Why are we married to letting this agency continue to handle firearms if we are not happy with their performance on our behalf? Seems like a no-brainer to yank that responsibility from them and let them focus elsewhere.

Sounds good in theory but what is your plan to do this?? Many people want to be a bad ass until it’s time to be a bad ass

I would love to live in a world, where every gun owner put enough pressure on their people in DC and told them you want to stay in office, then the ATF, needs to become AT. But that just is very hard to imagine that we could pull it off.

I am not even sure that is the position of the gun rights groups.

Too many so-called "activist" groups on both sides of this issue, and so many others, are more about lining the leadership's and their coattail-hangers' pockets than they are actually GETTING RESULTS. Because results curtail their opportunity to scaremonger and keep the rubes' checkbooks pried open... I'm sure plenty of "pro-life" groups are pissed with Thomas for ruining their golden grift too...

I have not been following the "brace" fiasco even a little bit. Is the ATF now saying that someone with a documented disability has to pay for a tax stamp in order to use a brace?

I mean, not a made up BS disability like half the houses I've gone to while in uniform where the male and female are both on disability because they are fat or because they smoke weed because they are stressed. Legit medical disabilities where the patient has serious health issues which are muscular, bone or neuro driven disabilities?

Can someone confirm the above? The entire reason the braces started out was to aid vets who were injured and had a hard time shooting, and then it turned into just generic "pistol braces". If that is now being deleted, I would assume the ADA and ACLU should be working on a lawsuit...... right? Do they need an victim individual to jump start things or what is the deal with this?

ADA was functionally dead with COVID and the facediaper and jab mandates. ACLU hates guns and gunpeople so won't bother.

If they have one in their possession before they make that move… from how it has been described, they just have to file a Form 1 for any such weapon. The tax will be waived.

But you do make a point… moving past that, if someone wants a brace, they have to Form 1 it. And those people will need to pay the $200. Either braces will go away, since if you are SBRing a braced pistol… why not just puts stock on? Disabled persons might be the only ones who would buy one.

I think you see what I'm getting at. Let's say someone has a back or shoulder injury, and the brace works for them along with the shorter and lighter weapon. Should they be taxed simply because they can't hold a weapon the way a regular/ uninjured person does? It would seem to me there is a right to self defense which is being challenged, especially if its a vet or someone who can show they are trained on that platform and more effective with it. More effective means less risk (to self and others) in the means to defense.

I think the NRA, self defense foundations, pro-2A and ADA attorneys are missing this piece of the puzzle, and I also believe this would set a precedent which would go much farther than simply braces. I think this is a clear cut violation of not only the 2nd, but also other civil liberties as well.

Stick, you might wanna reach out to FPC - they're the ones leading the charge in the current round of Lawfare.

ETA: The theoretical case you describe could also lever the door open for a court strikedown of NFA suppressor regs.
