    What rifles to consider?

    Looking for 5.56 only.
Handled a SCAR 16s yesterday and really wasn't feeling it. No pun intended.

Range toy to start. Might replace my Stag as SHTF rifle if proven reliable

I am looking for something very accurate, reliable and ideally lighter than my Stag. I know the MR556 is not light. Accurate and reliable are the 2 I am most concerned with. With optic & light, my Stag weighs 8.4 lbs

Are you specifically seeking something non-AR?

Let’s face it the AR platform in the US is the most popular rifle around. Parts are available, plentiful, and somewhat easy to install. While other platforms are great to work with if you can’t get parts for those things and something breaks you just have a huge paperweight on your hands. Not hating on any other platform FWIW. If your ARis reliable and accurate as your “Go -To” rifle then why reinvent the wheel?

Let me weigh in as a guy who prefers AKs. If you are really asking all the 5.56 guns to consider.

Stop with a good AR - keep it simple and proven. Why? Because you are going to want to add useful stuff - lights, optics, grips, etc. Other types of rifles have a myriad of options and its a crap shoot finding the right combination - even on good systems.

On the AR it's simple and you can research the right accessories for YOUR use.

Yes, the AR is the easy button but that doesn't make it just an adequate choice. If your Stag is a reliable arm then branching out could be a good option. All of my defensive/competition long arms are AR's. I have been eyeing one of the Brownells BRN 180 top ends since I used to have an AR 180 some years ago.

I once read, right here on M4C, that one should save some money for a quality optic..
