How well would that mount retain zero? What kind of lasers would even fit it that would be worthwhile? How would you handle switchology?
I think that "white paper" is absolute trash. n = 1 for each handguard, we don't have any specs on how each upper was assembled, and the whole testing regime in general was ****ing wack given it it relies on the skills of the shooter, the ammo, the ability (or lack thereof) to maintain consistent pressure, etc. Would be way easier with much less variables to simply just throw an upper in a vice, zero a laser at some distance, apply pressure to the handguard, and see how much the laser moves.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

IIRC IraqGunz would occasionally mount even full-size DBAL's on Mossies--snug it down as far as it'll go and torgue the setscrews until they dig into the front face of the FSB and it "should" (in theory) be good and solid. What I did on my "Mk18-ish" Briefcase Monster was route the Lasermax Rifle Kit's cable down alongside the FSB with the tape running down the side where my palm rests. Farthest I've gotten is "ergonomic" testing, though.
Lasers, I'd look to stuff light the aforementioned Uni-Max, the old Insight M6X light/laser combo, or Streamlight's TLR RM kits with tape switches.
Alternate idea, look to GG&G or CAA's FSB-mount siderail kits--or the Diemaco tri-rail (BCM used to have a knockoff of this for their C8SFW URG) which clamps around the barrel and FSB without even touching the handguard.

WL might have just done it once as a mockup when I had a question about how much size/weight a MM could take, but he did post one photo of such a configuration. He was actually the one who turned me on to 'em too, good thing because the monster's CASV prohibits GG&G Sling Things and similar FSB-mount side rails.
I miss that guy... he's right alongside Jeff Cooper for "wish I could have managed to take a class from."
