"Best Pump Action Shotgun Buyer's Guide 2022"

Most of the usual suspects are included. Curious that they list the FN P-12 (basically an upgraded Winchester Defender) since FN discontinued this model around 5 years ago.

They list an 870 "Fieldmaster" in the hunting section. Fieldmaster is the name of Remington's pump rimfire.

"Fieldmaster" seems to be the new name for an 870:

No Browning BPS? IMO, the most rock solid pump made today.

Lost of post Wingmaster 870s without crap parts. For a long time the 870 Express HD was 100% good to go, I think the Remington "troubles" only started about 10 years ago. First it was 700s that discharged if you moved the safety OFF safe, then it was budget parts (MIM or plastic) in the 870s, but that is true of almost every pump shotgun now.

Damn shame, 870s used to be the Glock 19 of the shotgun world.

The new Remington Fieldmaster is actually a very nice shotgun.

They have decided to exit the "race to the bottom" category, and build a mid-price shotgun. I have handled one and fired it. It's well-made, and I would have no problem owning one or recommending it.

I'd never buy an Express. Period. I have one that I have highly-modified to use as a testbed shotgun. You are honestly way better off buying a used Wingmaster or Police Magnum, changing the mag tube spring and follower, and calling it good.

I am a fan of the pre-Cerberus Police Magnums. There are a fair number of them on the market right now, around the $500 range. I just picked up two from Acme Sports in Indiana. They were $970 for the pair, shipped to my FFL.

I will say this: Any article that specifically tells you to ignore the bullshit about racking a slide makes crooks run, is worth reading.

I'll read the entire article tomorrow and post some more thoughts.

CZ shotguns seem to run well for me after a break-in period. I have a CZ 712 G2 semi-auto that I have built as a "Poor Man's 1301". I'm going to do an article with pics and a writeup on that.

But I do agree that the Benelli SuperNova pump is a sleeper, and worth considering. That 3.5" chamber is a lot of fun. I have some #4 Buckshot loads for turkey. Imagine firing 54 projectiles that are .24 caliber at 1500 feet per second.

That's why a buddy calls it his "Hotel Claymore" and I have to agree.

I have Wingmasters and Police Magnums, what is wrong with the older Express models? I can't see or feel a difference? Keep in mind I probably bought mine back in 2001.
