Not downtown, and not a rifle, mostly. I carry my Sig M17, and go along the rivers, mostly, but I'll venture through populated areas as part of the route, especially if I try to change things up and do a loop around the Park/zoo.
But open carry is open carry. Whether I have a pistol holstered or a rifle slung, it shouldn't matter if I'm minding my own damn business. Kansas is an open carry state, and I have open carried rifles on hikes before. (several times in Manhattan, and an Enfield as part of a WWII British kit I hiked in a couple of times last year) I've never had anyone question it or raised an issue with it. I've been berated by an angry boomer for carrying a Ukrainian flag more than I've had issues open carrying. And populated areas or not, the danger of bad encounters remains. I've had it happen in isolated areas of the river trails as well as walking by a freaking Dillons parking lot on the way back.
