The FBI, like the CIA, et al., are government bureaucracies like any other; the higher one is promoted, both the Peter Principle and the Law of Applied Politics are applied. Which is a shame in the truest sense because we need the organizations (but maybe not in the current form). The worker bees are to be commended for they bear the weight of the work and 'kick it up' where it gets tabled, politicized, watered down/dressed up, edited/changed. It seems once you get above 'shift supe' in any of those organizations you trade your integrity in for go-along-get-along.

I have had dealings with the FBI, 3 times in my life.

A more worthless bunch of ass hats I have never met in my life.

If I were President the Effing Bunch of Idiots would go into the history books. Let the U.S.Marshals pick up the slack.

The "lying to a Federal agent" bullshit law should be stricken from the books. That would cause the FBI's arrest/conviction rate to plummet. Any agent who was part of an interrogation that had that charge brought should be fired at a minimum. The culture needs to change, and in a new, different organization. Yeah I know, same shit, different day.

Yes, they are the Amerikansky version of the KGB/Stasi. From everything I have read and heard they are arrogant as hell. I've not heard of a law enforcement agency that likes working with them. The ENTIRE organization should be shit-canned, that includes those "honest rank and file" agents.....they can all go to hell. Given my druthers I'd ensure that anyone who worked for those scum would never be able to work in the law enforcement field again after I humiliatingly disbanded them. It would be like a scarlet letter. Go super-size it at McDonald's you assholes.

Someone will undoubtedly mention that the "average rank and file" agent isn't responsible for his superiors' decisions. So to that I would submit this: if you had a guy in front of you who had been in the KGB, Gestapo, Stasi, et al, would you not A) be hopeful that organization was shut down, and B) consider him "tainted" by the mentality, organizational culture, and behavior of said organization? Of course you would.

US Marshals are the ones who shot Sam Weavers dog because it blew their hide, then claimed Sam Weaver fired on them first, then shot Sam Weaver in the back as he ran for the house after getting into a gunfight with unknown individuals who just killed his dog. It was a FBI investigation that concluded the US Marshal report of events wasn't possible given the physical evidence at the scene.

I've known a lot of people, including those who work for FBI, ATF and US Marshals. There really doesn't seem to be anything unique to any agency that guarantees people will be this or that. You get on the alcohol or tobacco side of ATF and it's mostly ok people making sure everyone is paying their taxes and recording things properly. I even had some decent compliance inspectors related to my FFL / SOT, including one guy who realized I wasn't doing Multiple Handgun Reports correctly but since it didn't seem willful he simply made sure I knew how to do it correctly and that was that.

I've known people in various agencies that were complete scumbags who'd do almost anything to get what they want. I knew a few with serious drug and alcohol problems that would have gotten anyone else fired and possibly arrested if they worked anywhere else. Federal law enforcement is like any other law enforcement, you get the good and the bad and the nature of the job seems to attract a really bad element that doesn't always get weeded out in the hiring process. I also know plenty of guys who WISH they had the power to flush all the turds in their agency because they are nothing but trouble and make problems everywhere they go and with everything they touch.

Have you ever asked the batfe why it takes 12 months to process a form 4 for a suppressor?

    I actually know this.

Because even in the good old days when NFA branch was in W. Virginia, I think they had something like 8 examiners for the entire country. And the turn around was something like 4 months.

Now that they are in Portland, I'm sure NFA branch still has about 8 examiners, but I bet they are all "local talent" and they have a mountain of forms to process that reach the ceiling. ATF really doesn't give a damn when, or even if, those forms actually get processed. And even though NFA branch has historically been the MENSA crew within ATF, there is only so much they can do when it's just you and the rest of the people in this room.
