New CDC report on firearm homicide and suicide rates during the pandemic

Vital Signs: Changes in Firearm Homicide and Suicide Rates — United States, 2019–2020, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report / May 13, 2022 / Vol. 71 / No. 19 US Department of Health and Human Services/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 656-663.

The new CDC firearm violence article discusses firearm homicide, firearm suicide and the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of race, ethnicity and poverty levels. At first read, it appears to be a reasonably evenhanded survey of statistics, without the wild-eyed extremist recommendations you might expect.
Thats surprising. I'm waiting to see how gun rights SME's react.

The article will confirm that limiting access to firearms with government laws and policies is fruitless. As long as despair exists in communities, as long as evil walks the streets, as long as certain communities permit and allow cultural norms, violence to self and others shall continue. In other words, gun control is dead. The revitalization of the family unit should be a priority instead.

No mention at all of the effects of de-funding the police and free bail for all the homies on the homicide rate.

No mention at all of the 107,000 deaths in 2021 from drug overdose, a 15% increase from the previous record, set just one year before.

Ignoring the self inflicted wound to our country's soul of a poorly conceived and unnecessary epidemic shut down will haunt politicians and department heads for decades. My daughter's generation is PISSED OFF. She has seen and felt the consequences of being marginalized for the sake of our elderly that have already lived their lives. Sorry. Too tangential. Yes, the CDC should recognize that suicides by any means whether by OD or trauma would be higher after 2 years of government betrayal.

I know this is crazy talk, but maybe the Center for Disease Control could better put the taxpayer dollar to use if they studied diseases. Maybe even the disease they claim has killed 1 million Americans since 2019?

I thought those deaths had already been chalked up to Wuhan flu, like every other death, was! Dear leader sorta said so!
