I don't care if it is true or not. It has to piss him off one way or the other, and that people either think it is true, or want it to be true are all that matters.
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.
It's that simple.

What passes for Russian opposition media is reporting that both the Hawks and the Doves in the Kremlin are dissatisfied with the conduct of the war. So depends on who comes out on top, doves would want to end it and hawks would likely want to escalate.
