I know at least some of the pics circulating are not him. The person even posted about it not being him. But done of the pics are supposedly taken directly from his IG account along with pics of the guns. I guess we'll see what true in the next few days.

Yep, and reports were made and he had made threats of violence that were never investigated. It's not surprising. When I worked at the gun store, we called either the police or ATF over illegal activity many times and the responses was always the same: "Thank you for calling us, we're not going to move forward with this at this time. If he comes in again, let us know."

I'm ignoring the noise for now, as it's all the same old same old that we've all seen since 2012. The talking points were already prepared and waiting for an opportunity to hit the air, again. Yet the conversation always stays focused on the tool, and never the cultural ailments that led us here. The low hanging fruit this time is probably ballistic plates (which, interestingly also affects the niche industry of plates that fit in kids' backpacks just for incidents like this).
But the sad truth is that we're a nation that lost it's moral compass, and are stuck in a spiral of sinking depravity. Everything seems done for clout, shock value, and attention. The kinds of people who carry out these attacks all seem to have an implicit understanding that this event is the end of their life, whether they die in the attack or not. There's not much you can do to stop someone who has decided that they're already committed to carrying out great evil as their final act of life. So the question must shift to understanding why people reach that point, and intervening before they get there.
That's the hard answer, though. We didn't get here in a single election cycle or single quarter of corporate business results. The fix requires long term thinking, planning, and action- and that's sadly something our culture seems utterly incapable of tackling anymore.

Actually, and it happened in Texas no less, this has some similarities with the 1966 "Texas Tower" incident. Whitman killed his wife and mother, had mental issues that were documented, and went to a "school" (granted, not an elementary school) to kill people.

First off, I can’t contribute to the discussion because I refuse to give this nut any attention so sorry I’m venting. This kind of hit me hard last night as today is the last day of school for my kids. They attend elementary. However, the doors are hardened and locked, you are identified before you get let in, and if you don’t have a badge (permanent or temporary) police are called immediately.
That being said, even my 8 year old gets it. He doesn’t understand why the tool is the topic of conversation when it’s the nut job that is using it. Maybe it’s because he knows we have guns (though he doesn’t know how many or why kinds) and we teach them to respect tools, but he used his own logic to say that you can be crazy and use a car or anything else for malice but it’s not the cars fault.
I’m sad for the parents and community that they were failed. I’m sad that schools aren’t hardened like other state facilities, and I’m furious that I have to teach my kids that they don’t hide in a classroom corner but that they need to go out a window and run because we can’t have defensive weapons in schools “for the children”.
