Shooter ran into room with hardened door and then next round of LEOs could not breach the hardened door.

Like everything on internet these days, misinformation seems to rule.

What do we know about the first engagement with the active shooter? The three LEO's were shot?

Up until Columbine that was the SOP for most departments- form a perimeter and wait for SWAT. Active shooter training gained traction after Columbine where the first units on scene went in. We did active shooter training a couple of times a year at the local high school. 1 to 4 officers forming up and going inside- no room to room clearing just moving to the sound of gunfire. The object was to get to the shooter and stop the killing ASAP.

We trained that way after Columbine too. This would have been early 2000s for my department when the dynamic changed. There were three schools in my jurisdiction, middle, HS, and a private. Most of our training was done at the middle school because our officer was stationed there. The county SO had the officer in the HS. Looking back, it would have been nice to have more joint training. Unfortunately what basically happened was each dept did their own trainings.

Read where he was off duty, showed up and decided to go for it. Borrowed a ballistic shield from one of the cops standing there and went on in with his own weapon and one guy backing him up. Article said his shield took 16 hits and his head was grazed (showed the baseball cap he was wearing with a long bullet tear in it) so it creased his scalp. That's awfully close to being canoed. Kudos to that guy.

Victor Escalon, Texas Department of Public Safety regional director for South Texas said Thursday that Salvador Ramos, the alleged school shooter, was inside for one hour before being shot and killed. Ramos allegedly killed 19 students and two teachers during the shooting on Tuesday.

Escalon also said that the officers who first arrived on the scene did not make entry initially because of the "gunfire they're receiving," adding that the U.S. Border Patrol tactical teams arrived one hour later.

"Approximately an hour later, U.S. Border Patrol tactical teams arrive. They make entry, shoot and kill the suspect," Escalon said.
