Got it. You’re cool with the ATF doing things they are prohibited by law from doing. But hey, last time your argued scanning wasn’t searchable.

So do you and been addressed already.

The fact that they are digitizing / aka "going paperless" with the 4473s in their possession changes nothing. It's more efficient than having them alphabetically organized but does nothing to generate "completeness." That is the BIG, BIG PART you continue to NOT understand. They have nothing like a master database.

On the last thread I gave you the number of firearm transactions compared to the number of 4473s they had on file. Go re read it, then you can figure out you are still an idiot.

ATF is not prohibited from accessing the 4473s in their possession. And last time around you were suggesting this master database, nobody realized you were talking about nothing more than searching their own pdfs.

    Oh boy personal attacks now.

Meanwhile, we all grasp the incompleteness. Making it searchable is still illegal. You’re cool with that.

Now you want to call them PDFs when before you claimed they weren’t and that PDFs weren’t searchable.

Ummm, when they were hard copies in copy paper boxes, they were still searchable. Send Scooter down to Storage G and look for this 4473.

That is partial my fault. I credited you with way more intelligence than equating pdfs with a master data base. If your original thread was less OMG!!!!! ATF HAS GUN REGISTRY RIGHT NOW AND ILLEGAL and you had simply stated they were scanning the 4473s currently in their possession to pdf format you'd have gotten zero replies because it's not illegal and it's kinda "duh...no kidding."

But even on THIS thread you stated they had access to ALL 4473s (Post #10) by simply searching a name and I'm sorry but that is idiotic.

I'm assuming "meme" and "nor" are typos and you intended"name" and "now."

So decide which scenario you are claiming, both have been addressed regardless.

I was called an idiot…ATF gun registry a reality.

    So now typos.

Get over it. Also, other thread was not mine.

Again, a searchable database, even if it’s their files, is illegal. You’re cool with that I see. They’ve been dick-smacked for it before.

Guys like you are the problem. You’re an ATF apologist. You’re cool with them doing things they shouldn’t and you defend them. Let them have an inch they get a mile.

So I wasn't criticizing you for typos, just clarifying.

Also you are very, very incorrect. ATF is ALLOWED to search the 4473s in their possession. If they have the 4473s, how do you think they do a firearm trace in that instance. Don't call me an ATF apologist because you don't understand things.

Creating pdfs from hard copies doesn't violate the law and as I've pointed out time and time again it doesn't create the "searchable database" you are trying to suggest exist. No the other thread wasn't started by you, but this one was and it was done to call people out because you don't understand how things work, what is legal and what is illegal.

Hell if you'd have simply posted "Wouldn't this be illegal?" you'd have simply gotten answers.

I'm also not defending ATF, I'm just understanding what they are doing vs. what YOU believe they are doing. Let's not forget we started from a position of claiming they can "type in a name" and see "information on any 4473 you’ve filled out."

Calling me an ATF apologist is just grasping at straws because you can't admit you don't understand how 4473s are maintained by FFLs, what happens to 4473s when a FFL closes out his license and what ATF is permitted to do with 4473s that come into their possession as a result.

While we are on the subject, back when I pulled my first FFL in the 1990s there was only a requirement to maintain 4473s for 20 years and it was something like 10 years back in the 1980s. So a LOT of 4473s were NEVER provided to ATF, I can remember all through the 90s when FFLs I knew had a shred and burn party. I believe this was also mentioned in the previous thread so there are literally thousands of 4473s that were never turned over to ATF because they were lawfully destroyed by the FFLs who only had a responsibility to maintain those records for 10 and then later 20 years.

A variety of sources. It is supposed to be non-searchable, but it is. But everybody is wrong but AUG, which is funny because the AUG is just wrong.
