    What about the 4%?

How do you arrive at that?

If a 10.5" AR-15 has a total length of 25.3" with a retracted stock, then an 11.5" is 26.3" with a retracted stock. That is a 4% increase in length. Is that what you are asking?

I haven't actually measured my 10.3" but it has an A5 RE. Regardless, something in the 26-30" total length range, when you add another 1" is ~4% increase.

    BREAK BREAK

I had a dwell time thread a while back (see second post) and calculated some numbers. I am glad that my math was pretty close back then to what is being reported in this thread. My comparisons were made to a 20" rifle gas system since that is really our baseline, but you can see what the barrel lengths and gas systems do to dwell time.

As far as the gas port to muzzle, the 3.83 on the 11.5 is only 35% more than the 2.83 on the 10.5

So I’m not sure how Paul Bafoni calculated the 40%

I don't get the obsession with this dwell time. They both work great with the right port size. Port size is infinitely more important than dwell when comparing 10.5 with 11.5.

I get it if you're just interested in shooting.

I want to understand more because I'm also interested in the details.

A lot of people over the years have referenced the 11.5 having 40% more dwell time than a 10.5 and recommended not going below 11.5 for that reason.

Now its as if the dwell time difference between the 11.5 and the 10.5 doesn't mean much and that really peaked my interest.
