Personally I’d redo it myself with OCKS and sealant. But that takes one of Ned’s staking jigs which not everyone owns.

You could do a 30 inch pound reverse torque test but not everyone owns the tool for that either.

    Otherwise, send it back.
I've heard multiple armorers say that staking is an extra assurance. They claim that if screws are sealed and torqued properly staking won't make much of the difference. However, if incorrect screws are used or they are not torqued and sealed properly then even good stacking won't make play any positive difference.

I've seen at least one case where a screw was sheared between the gas key and the carrier and staking looked very good (I think it was in one of the SOTAR's videos). In fact staking obfuscated the fact that screw was completed sheared off by keeping a screw head in place in the gas key.

How dare you imply that "some guys on the internet" could ever be guilty of giving poor advice. The more I thought about it after making that post, I came to the conclusion that had it been my rifle, I would probably give KAC a call as well. Especially after going back and looking at the picture again.

I thought the ENTIRE reason people bought KAC (or whatever "T1" manufacturer) was so that you didn't have to second guess manufacturing and assembly and definitely not have to play back and forth with customer service.

I do that kinda shit with my PSA guns.

Nah. Folks on this thread are being pretty civil. Nobody has been called a name yet. Nor has anyone's lineage been called into question. It is currently at "Discussion" level. Should it arise to "Argument" level then you'll have some true entertainment.

It is, and it rarely happens. This is the first KAC bolt carrier staking thread I can even think of. But shit can happen, and if you are the one person who gets a Colt, HK, BCM, whatever and it isn't right, you don't become a youtube gunsmith, you contact them and if they can't explain it in a reasonably acceptable fashion you send it to them so then can fix or replace.

He might send it back to them, they take an "in person" inspection and send it back to him and tell him it checks out fine. And THEN he doesn't need to even worry about it. Customers don't have to be engineers.

And honestly if you are perfectly satisfied with your PSA guns, nothing wrong with that either. I own a lot of shit I'd never bet all the marbles on.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

Even the best of the best are going to slip up every once in a while. Just contact KAC about it, and see what they say about it. They might say it’s in spec, or they might ask for it to be sent in. Either way, calling them or sending an email will be WAY more productive than asking a bunch of gun nerds on the internet what they think.
