    PMC 5.56 X-Tac 62 Grain.

I got a couple hundred rounds of PMC X-Tac 5.56x45mm 62 Grain (LAP).
What do you think? Good self-defense ammo or just range ammo?

On the one hand pretty much anything 5.56 is good defense ammo, but OTOH m855 isn't nearly the best in the category. The "best" 223/5.56 defense ammo is typically considered to be expanding bonded ammo of one variety or another for optimal terminal and barrier performance. FWIW, I pretty much use 55 grain and 62 grain LAP for range use and defense interchangeably, as it works in both roles adequately for my purposes.

    This exactly.

During 'The Great Ammo Famine' of 2020 and 2021, that's the only brand I could consistently find. I ran a few hundred rounds; never an issue with it. Groups were meh, like most "855" but reliability was top notch. I vote good-to-go for range or SD.

    PMC 5.56 X-Tac 62 Grain.

    Thanks everyone.
I have a good amount of Speer GD 62gr and 77gr, but got a couple hundred rounds of the PMC X-Tac ones and wanted to make sure of the best use for them.
I have used the PMC Bronze 55gr FMJ (PM223A) at the range and it works fine for range fun.

The PMC X-Tac is okay, use like any other 855 variant. IIRC, it was ~2"/100 in my precision rifle.
Should be faster than your 62 gold dots, with a 50yd zero will hit a little higher than it.

Good defense round if you need to punch through hard armor plates.....just saying. With the "big guy" talking about banning civilian sales of Lake City 855 don't think I'd be wasting green tip right now.

Had some 62s out yesterday, 16" with LPV, zeroed for M855 at 50/200z. Eyeballing differences, 62 GDSP was ~1-1/4 low, <1" slightly left at 50. Close enough to use but I would zero the primary ammo. I didn't feel good about the 200yd group but it followed that trend. Of note, that particular lot of GDSP is 5-7 years old, about 2650fps. Hope that helps.
