    Biden going after surplus ammo?

    Civilians

    https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/br...ercial-market/

So, whilst Ive been down & recouping from covid...Ive pretty much seen & caught up with all the news that is news and worth telling. Ive now seen this twice online in different places. Odd to me..IF true..that they dont also go after M193...why just M855?
Also- I cannot remember where/ when I saw this..but a couple or three days ago read where THREE MS ammo plants were offline, due to one transformer blowing and taking all three out. According to that article...this transformer was either old, or had some unique thing about it that it was not easily replaceable. So three Miss. Winchester plants were down. Anyone confirm this? Aint swearing to ANY of it, just some things Ive read in the past few days.

So from the little I have seen (so take that for what it is worth) and what I know of government contracting here is my take.

The administration is going to bar the sale of excess production at Lake City, which is operated under contract by Winchester, to the public. My understanding is that the Lake City facilities operate at full capacity to: A) ensure full production capacity in the event the government needs such immediately, and B) to reduce cost to the government by allowing the contractor an additional income stream when full capacity is not required to fulfill government needs.

Black letter law says that IF the government unilaterally changes the terms of the contract (which it appears this does) the government MUST provide "fair and equitable" compensation to the contractor. So the government is going to have to pay Winchester to not sell ammunition to the public.

Now, that only applies to government contactors. Vendors who supply and contract with Winchester may not be covered and may then be looking for other avenues to sell their products, be it components or materials. It could also lead to reductions in production at Lake City, which is contrary to "Part A" above. So, how many "Good jobs, union jobs." is Joe gonna kill?

So, potentially cutting loose materials AND experienced labor? Hmmm, think anyone is gonna seize that opportunity?

Either way, I expect this will result in more of a "ripple" than a "wave".

I keep asking this question, especially of some of my center left acquaintances, why are they so hell bent on disarming the law abiding?

Just what the hell do they have planned for us that they must first completely disarm us for?

As conspiratorial as it might be you can help but wonder if whatever it is they’re planning it’s so evil they know we’d shoot them for it...

    This is NOT surplus ammo.

Bill Clinton already passed a law making it illegal to import military surplus for the commercial market, including ammo. This is why you haven't seen any "wonder deals" associated with us leaving Iraq or Afghanistan.

This is talking about current production ammo from Lake City being denied to the civilian market. The problem for everyone is Lake City is government owned.

Hey OP it's not surplus ammo. This is current production. Mark Oliva, a spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), told The Federalist “Winchester was informed that the government is considering restricting the manufacturing and commercial sale of legal ammunition produced at the Lake City, Mo., facility. Such restrictions, Oliva said, would place 400 to 500 jobs in immediate jeopardy, reduce available ammunition in the market, and sever the nation’s wartime readiness.

So if the government changes the contract unilaterally Winchester gets to submit a Request For Equitable adjustment. I’m assuming the it will be an eye watering amount.

Seriously ??? Why do you even bother to associate with "center left" acquaintances ??? I have no tolerance for any left wing socialist acquaintances or relatives for that matter.
    Apologies for digressing from OP.

Because some people don't live the prism of politics? My really good friends, I don't tell them how to think or vote.

I have a cousin who is gay, do you really think she is a republican? She doesn't stress me about how I vote because she understands guns are an issue with me, I don't stress her about how she votes because I know being gay is a issue with her. We get along fine.

My dad was a doctor, and among other things an evolutionary biologist, his brother was a deacon in the church after having a near death experience and meeting jesus and being sent back with cause. Want to know the one thing they never fought or even argued about? Beliefs.

Along the same lines, the number of people I absolutely hate and find despicable, but also happen to be conservative / republican is too long to list. I have other things in common with people, like are they good people.
