    Norma .223 in 69gr and 77gr

Pappabear got some factory Norma .223 to play with. The first thing that struck me was how short the 69 gr ammo was.

I didn't measure OAL because we were out shooting and I don't have dial calipers out there. But here's the ammo next to a 2.25" standard length hand load:

The 69s shot really well in the Geissele Super duty. My first 3 shot are on the left, then I blew is and shot the other two on the right.

The 77s shot MOA with a lot of horizontal if I remember right. BOTH loads gave us bolt over failures in two different suppressed ARs. A 10.5 LMT and the Geissele super duty. No chrono data this trip.

I'll pull down the two bolt overs and post the powder type and charge. Both bullets are mashed into the cartridge.

WOW! Another ammo thread with overwhelming interest. I'll try to keep up, guys!

I pulled down the two 77 gr and one 69 gr loads that bolt overed and mashed the bullet into the neck.

The 77 had 23.0 gr of ball powder (probably a TAC type based on weight/appearance). The 69 gr had 24.8 gr of ball powder.

Is it pretty light? Did you chrono any?

We didn't. Maybe this weekend. We had the chrono set up, but skipped it.

If you would like I'll post "thanks" in reply to each of these threads as I am both interested and thankful, but I have no useful feedback to provide.

I’ve used some of the 77 with no issues and decent accuracy. I haven’t chrono’d any, I. Interested in what you find.

Thanks guys. Just being a wise ass. Yeah... We'll chrono some. If it was one round, I'd not be concerned, but 3 out of known good rifles.

Those 69gr bullets seem oddly un-pointy to me.

I have some 77gr Norma match ammo, and it shoots lights out... It's better than 69gr FGMM in my gun.

I don't think the pic does justice on how odd they look in over all length.

I must have missed this thread being started. It'll be interesting to see what the chronograph says. I'd love for there to be more options on the market.
