Has it been used in a 5: in PDW for many years? I'm assuming not, so we are not apples/apples in that comment. Two, while I get what you're saying, with their budgets, they could train with 300blk all day, and or get what ever they wanted to make that happen being they tend to focus on trying to train with as close as possible with what they will fight with. While they may indeed train with 5.56 there's no doubt in my mind the 5.56 option also exists for reasons beyond training.

Per the entire thread, 300blk is the better option, especially when you have an almost unlimited budget for ammo and availability etc,

Low vis PDWs. Some dudes are running them suppressed. Not everyone is. All fielded are .300.

There aren’t any sim rounds that I’m aware of available in .300. Extrapolate accordingly.

I haven’t paid lots of attention just because the latest and greatest that they use isn’t all that interesting to me so I don’t know if they’ve been using 5” .300BOs for a while or not.

My guess (for outside of JSOC, that’s a different realm I try not to pretend to know about) is that many would switch platforms entirely if the primary round is unavailable but that’s just pulled from my general perspective and not asking a direct question. Also a lot of stuff is personal preference and so it’s really just up to the individual.

Budgets are far from unlimited. Whatever they save by shooting cheaper ammo can go towards something else. Also conversion kits for sim rounds are pretty important and far easier to buy a standard caliber to source ammo for those.

If they wanted them, the could get them all day. Not even blip to their budgets. I'm not buying that's the sole reason SOCOM chose to have both in the armory.

All true, I'm not buying the sole reason SOCOM made sure both exists, is to save money on ammo or SIMs. Your mileage may vary.

Gov white paper on recs for the new PDW:

"The Government hereby submits a notice of intent to award the Commercial Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) contract to Sig Sauer. This IDIQ will provide complete PDW weapons (Sig Rattlers - 5.56mm and .300 Blackout caliber) that includes suppressors (SL series), cleaning kits, magazines, quick barrel change kits and force on force training kits."

I was hoping they'd explain why they wanted them in both calibers, but don't offer anything:

I don't know anything about the company myself. Made in FL, I do know the owner of this company and may have some interesting developments on that front in the near future :
