I've done that a few times. I don't even have an A2 upper AR at all anymore.

Is there a difference between an "A2 profile" barrel and an "HBAR" barrel?

In today’s market I’ve come to the conclusion it’s worth it to hold onto your guns, because you’ll have a hard time recreating what you’ve sold off. Parts supply is a huge issue for A2 rifles at the moment.

Yes. The A2 profile is what is also called "government profile" Skinny under the handguards. HBAR is Heavy Barrel and fat under the barrel.

    Very much so.

Euro, having cut my teeth on the M16A2 I have a passing interest as well. Unfortunately I am unaware of any off the shelf versions that I would consider to be "duty grade". I might roll my own someday, but even that may prove challenging as finding the right parts gets more difficult.

Okay maybe this might be what the OP is looking for? I just ordered the A1 model from Fulton Armory and was also strongly considering their "A2 Service Rifle". I'm not all versed in the various nuances so this may not hit the mark, but I remembered seeing "A2 Government Profile" in their barrel description when reading OPs post.

These are their base models but you can have them tweaked in various ways when ordering.

Looks like Fulton Armory still makes one.

I recently used one of their slick side M16 upper receiver for a build. It looked great and so far I have zero complaints with it. Very well built.

Fulton makes good stuff. Their A2 upper that I used was by far the nicest A2 upper I’ve seen.

Colt made an A2 Government model, which is NOT an Hbar. I have one.

I heard that but I also heard they are EXTREMELY rare.
