Idea: buy the Colt A4, replace the receiver with a correct A2 receiver, and sell the original A4 receiver and charging handle. You'd probably end up below the cost of the original purchase price of the A4 rifle, and all your other boxes would be checked. DO IT.

I put one together from mostly Colt parts. Receivers are the only non-Colt parts. Not sure if thats an option for you.

What if I got an HBAR Colt and had the HBAR barrel turned down to govt size?

Can that work? Who does stuff like that?
Why do the loudest do the least?

Maybe cheaper and easier to get the HBAR Colt and swap in a FNH barrel.

They have a hammer forged version as well, but it's out of stock currently.

I used a Govt Profile FN barrel and a bunch of BCM parts to build a 20" rifle during the Rona. Went together easily and runs well. Accuracy seems good, but I'm a shitty shot these days due to lack of practice.

For turning the existing barrel, maybe ADCO? IDK...

Yeah, in 86 seems everyone jumped on the Hbar a Delta Hbar. I actually lucked into my A2 Government profile, buying some old stuff from a PD.

    Cheaper ways to do it.

Hmmmm - I actually have a Colt A2 barrel that I put into an A4 receiver. I use it to practice work with iron sights.

It's got Magpul furniture on it, Pretty accurate musket. I for the barrel off eBay about 15 years ago.

Euro - there is a dude that will turn down a barrel for you. I'll try and find his contact info. IIRC, he's somewhere in PA near Pittsburgh.

It would probably be more cost effective to swap in an govt. profile barrel right?

John Thomas of Retro Arms Works. Does excellent work and I've never read a bad review. Good price and timely service.....like VERY timely.

Just thinking about it.....if you bought a Colt HBAR "M16A2" I guarantee you the cost of having the HBAR turned down (and re-parked) would be less than buying a new government-profile barrel. Now if you insist on authenticity (I can relate!) then use the proper barrel. Hey, spend while you can 'cause they can't bury you with it!
