I was "that guy" at the range today.

Per latest acquisition of AR pistol (1), I took it to the range to try it out. As expected, very loud and big pretty fireball. But, my Peltor active muffs did their job, and it was all good. 100 rnds no issues. Back in the day, would have done 200-300 for sure, but to much $ these days, and I was "that guy" annoying people at an indoor range. I was alone for the first 60 rnds actually and people started coming in, so not too bad. It's worse when you are on either side of such a gun vs behind it. So, did my bit, told them I'd have a can on the crazy thing some day, and left.

I still didn't bother me all that much and was perfectly pleasant to shoot, although way better at an outdoor range no doubt.

Ps, loudest AR I have ever fired was 16" with a muzzle break designed to reduce recoil (as if an AR needed such a thing...) and it sent gas and sound back at you. And entire line of us shooting ARs of various lengths and configs, and they all looked over and said "WTF is up with that AR dude?" True story.

Muzzle brakes are stupid, I get it on a Barrett 95, but on ARs...LAME, especially short ARs.

I have a muzzle brake on an SBR, but that upper ALWAYS has a can on it. It's a Sionics ERGP barrel, and I don't think it will even run without the can.

It's purpose is to act as a sacrificial baffle, and extend the life of the can.

My son has one on a rifle length barrel / rifle gas / rifle buffered AR. He claims because of the 'recoil' reduction.

That + him owning 2 cats + the lack of a girlfriend pretty much prove to me he is a homo.

Been doing a lot of indoor range shooting with a compensated pistol lately due to the heat. Can definitely understand what you mean here!

The 'factory ammo' for the particular firearm I have been shooting is about a buck and a half per round from Underwood (not many others even make this particular stuff) + shipping and tax...

Being a reloader and being really well stocked - I roll my own using the same exact components for about 20 cents per (not counting the brass cause it lasts for damn near ever if I do not lose it)

Yeah, my costs will go up eventually when I get to where I 'need' to buy more bullets, primers or powder but even at current ass rape prices on those things I would still be well under 40 cents per round to make them myself.

Tell him to bring the two cats the next time he fires that weapon. Once they hear and feel the blast, they'll tear his ass up! Have the A2 flash hider ready to put back on.

I was just gonna say, those ban era ARs with the 74 style brakes are the loudest 5.56 ANYTHING I've ever heard.
