Numbers are all over the place and the variance is interesting given the sources (Russian numbers for Uke losses vs Uke numbers vs NATO numbers, etc.). It's hard to ascertain what is legit and what is psy ops a work.

Even without spin and psy ops, it's an estimate with a wide margin of error no doubt. Add in the need X country has to inflate/under report, the numbers, does not seem worth paying any real attention too. The Russians have won wars with a peer foe by throwing more bodies at it until the other side runs out of men and resources. I suspect modern weapons are too effective and efficient for that approach to win wars with, especially if your forces are not motivated to fight.

Russian President Vladimir Putin fell down the stairs and soiled himself this week amid mounting speculation that his health is declining, an anti-Kremlin Telegram channel with apparent links to his security team reported.

Putin, 70, suffered the unfortunate fall at his Moscow official residence on Wednesday evening, according to the Telegram channel “General SVR,” which purports to be run by a former Russian spy.

The ailing Russian leader allegedly fell down five steps before landing on his coccyx, or tailbone.

Although his security guards immediately rushed to his aid, the impact of the fall caused Putin to “involuntarily defecate” due to “cancer affecting his stomach and bowels,” according to the channel.

I was really expecting things like drone swarms and an even bigger impact and number of kamikaze drones. I think those have the ability to change warfare just like machine guns did in World War I 100 years ago. We have seen just a small inkling of what AI and drones could mean for warfare.

Thats greatly exaggerated, if you’re talking about WWII. What really happened is that they were a portion of an international alliance that assisted them greatly. Their initial performance wasn’t good at all, and though it improved, it wasn’t particularly great. Being on the defense also gave them an extreme advantage, plus winter happened.

Edit: some dude on youtube has reminded me that hubris and un-preparedness were significant factors, as well.

As much as I’d love this to be true, its a news story that’s only source is some anonymous social media post, on a social media platform that was started by Russians, and has a reputation for overt state-sponsored propaganda/disinformation. Thats a pretty low grade of journalism. Maybe it happened, maybe it didn’t.

These numbers are estimates by the Ukrainians and western intel orgs no doubt. The fudge factor must be +/- quite large. Could be half that, could be 50% more then that. I'm still taking most figures I read with much skepticism personally.

I suspect the numbers are quite a bit higher.

The European Commission says it sees “no need to apologize” to Ukraine for a now-deleted statement made by its president, Ursula Von Der Leyen, who claimed the Ukrainian military had suffered 100,000 fatalities in its conflict with Russia.

“We explained on social media the reasons and the context in which this was made,” EC spokesperson Dana Spinant stated during a press conference in Brussels on Thursday, after she was pressed by several reporters to explain how the incident occurred.

On Wednesday, von Der Leyen stated in a video published on Twitter that “more than 100,000 Ukrainian military officers have been killed” in the nine months since Russia sent troops into the country, adding that around 20,000 civilians have also lost their lives due to the fighting.

The EC president’s statement sparked a backlash from Kiev, whose officials insisted that the death toll was “classified information” and subject to “restriction on publication.”

I think the "100,000" is bullshit. "Officers"? I call BS on that, too. Sounds like someone is SWAGging guesses.
