So given the current news reports of Ukrainian advances/victories, Russian losses, failures, lack of morale, etc, in retrospect perhaps, the 'Cold War' of the 60's-80's was a complete scam. The Russian military, given the ukraine fiasco, is nothing more than corrupt third rate hacks, their leadership abysmal, their equipment outdated trash, and their troops incompetent for the most part. Russia was just a facade of military prowess, impotent sods which posed no threat to the US militarily. Until the mid 1980s, the Soviets held an advantage over the US. It wasn't until Reagan that we really rebuilt from the shambles of the 1970s.

Id say that the Russians were probably a very big threat in the 60s through 80s. They had modern tech and a pretty well trained Army. Unfortunately for them the western world has modern tech and well trained armies while their training has lagged way behind and they are still using Cold War equipment for the most part.

They have a lot of guys running around with irons only rifles. My brother in law is a big time comms POG in the US Army and even he has a M4 with an ACOG, light, laser, NVGs, and a Sig M17.
