Given current priorities of enlistment criteria, if I was at that age, I'm not sure I'd feel like I was in with "the best group of guys possible."
Also how many perfectly viable, experienced people did we just recently cycle out of the military because the war in Iraq was over and we didn't really need them? I know more than a few guys who were halfway to career and were either paid extra to leave early or were otherwise negatively motivated to take early leave.
And of course given the way Biden put everyone at risk with his "lets partner with the actual TALIBAN" exit strategy in Afghanistan, I can't blame anyone for getting the F out. All that fighting, all that sacrifice and Obama created ISIS and handed over most of our gains to the enemy and Biden legitimized the Taliban shortly after they took over control of Afghanistan beginning with the August 2021 offensives. It's almost as if our enemy understands when we have extremely weak leadership.
If the actual PLAN was to undermine the US military and give the Taliban everything they lost since fighting began 20 years prior, we could not have been more successful. If Obama's actual PLAN was to deliver all the offensive weaponry (including big shit like tanks and vehicles) that a group like ISIS would ever need to reverse all of our gains to that point, he could not have been more successful.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.
