Anyone else still use a shotgun for HD?

    Don't get me wrong, I have AR-15's.
But the long gun in my bedroom is an 870 loaded with 7 #1 buckshot Rem Express rounds. That's 16 .30 cal pellets @1250fps per shot.
Of course I have other buckshot rounds also including Fed Flight Control rounds in #4 buck, #1 buck, and 00 buck.
I got my first 870 when I was 15, hunted everything around here with that. I and am very comfortable with an 870.
I know that hitting an intruder in my house with this round is going to make a mess of the walls, but so what. I have a can of drywall spackle and a putty knife.

Sounds like you’ve got it figured out. SeriousStudent is knowledgeable on this topic.

I'm building a 7mm PRC for Home Defense, but if you like the bird gun.... good on ya!

Have my 18 inch 870 with extended tube but longing for a semi auto with the same capacity.

When I say Home Defense I mean like inside your house, not 500 yards away.
And I don't think too many people use buckshot for bird hunting except maybe Ostriches.

I’ll stick to an AR. I like that I have 30 rounds to use and can reload with another 30 rounds in seconds. A silencer keeps the noise down and there’s very little recoil for faster follow up shots or use by the weaker sex. It also penetrates soft armor.

What optic and light setup are you using on your shotgun? I have an Aimpoint TL and an M600 on my 590A1 but always curious to see what others use.

Surefire X300U. Don't need an optic inside my house, just the bead that I am very use to.
If you shoot someone 30 times in a HD situation it might not look good in court.
But I can put 16 .30 holes thru and thru and intruder with one shot.

12.5” 5.56 gun takes care of that nicely.

This is true. That's why I am familiar with the Mozambique drill.
If the first hit doesn't splatter them all over the walls, removing meat and bone, the next one is at the genital/pelvic area, And then the head.
