US Army to acquire new light tank

...Assuming that it actually makes it through the budgetary process and into the field.

"The Army plans to buy 504 vehicles, and they are projected to be in the inventory for at least 30 years. The bulk of procurement should be complete by 2035, Dean said, adding that the MPF program has remained on schedule and budget.

Once fielded, the MPF capability will be organized by battalion, but will be employed as companies “generally” at the brigade level, Maj. Gen. Ross Coffman, who oversees combat vehicle modernization, said during the same roundtable."

Anyone observing the war in Ukraine can see that tanks are pretty much obsolete now.
Someone should tell the Pentagon this.

    This.

With that being said, I love tanks....but a single man can take out an entire column of tanks with shoulder fired weapons. What's the point?

They're sadly better suited for at most, civilian disturbances...lol, I guess that's why all PD's have tanks now.

    Good times.

It already is. They're giving a 38t vehicle to the IBCTs. So how is the 82nd going to deploy with this 38t monster when they no organic HETS to transport this thing. F***ing retarded.

Russia has proven that they’re not nearly as well equipped as we thought, so unless someone has more Javs then us, it still MAY be worth the increased protection against light IDF, drone bombs, IEDs, small arms fire, etc.

Yeah the entire support/logistics side of this already sounds like a mess.

An accurate 125mm shot from a T-72/T-80/T-90 would probably turn this thing inside out, but then I guess the bad guys would already have been suppressed.

I disagree. Tanks aren’t obsolete. Tanks with broken or missing parts not properly supported by air, infantry, or anti-infantry, or even fuel, and using bad tactics…..now that’s been obsolete since 1918.

No. Being idiotic with tanks, throwing them forward without adequate infantry support, is obsolete, but tanks in and of themselves are not. I'm hardly a friend of tankers, but there are some roles that a tank is oh so useful for. A lighter tank would seem to be a good idea, especially if paired with a functional active protection system. I have no clue whether or not these tanks will be any damn good, but we probably won't know that for years.
It's f*****g great, putting holes in people, all the time, and it just puts 'em down mate, they drop like sacks of s**t when they go down with this.

The other question is, what's the intended oppo? T-90s or peasants with small arms?
