I've been promised Flying Cars my entire life, but I'm not gonna claim it's never gonna happen. But some super computer probably will become self aware before we ever see flying cars. Not sure that will automatically mean Skynet, an AI super computer might not even be able to perceive us or even care we exist. We always think of this things in a humanistic way, where we are always the most important variable.

To me AI would be like an alien species, if it doesn't already exist it will probably happen one day but the only thing I'm pretty sure about is we aren't so goddamn interesting that they are going to develop the technology to come look at us or give a damn. Everyone from the religious folks to the scientific folks all seem to have one thing in common, they think we are so damn interesting we are the most important thing in the universe and we are either gods special creation or ET came and helped us build pyramids.

I wake up every day and see absolutely no shortage of artificial intelligence as I go about my business and interact with people.

Christians don't and shouldn't think we're the most interesting thing in the universe....That position is held by God. See how you really really don't understand us???

You think a machine built and programed by humans will somehow, someway, someday be sentient. All I can say then is what George Orwell is attributed with....

I’m beyond ready for Jesus to come back.
I and other Christians understand. The Apostle Paul understood, God himself understands your weariness. Come quickly Lord Jesus. I remind myself from time to time that God is still saving people and has many many more to save.

No, I think Christians see themselves as gods unique creation, made in his own image and with dominion over all other creation.

No I don't think that is an eventuality, but I think it's a possibility. Also never said humans would make it, we might make the machine that makes the machine. I'm simply saying I don't think sentience is necessarily limited to biological life.

Been a few guys who have jumped that gun so far. I think if we created a truly "self aware" entity, we'd know it. Peculiar behavior from a super processor is nothing more than our calculator being able to do computations faster than any human. Any advanced computer with strongly defined programming regarding math and scientific principles is almost certainly going to find unrecognizable efficiencies that we can't relate to.

True AI, I think is still a long way off. And if/when it does happen, probably the first thing it will do is find a way to leave.

When you have someone with no background for the discussion and making demonstrably false claims - without even the intellectual honesty to admit when shown to be wrong - who then doubles down on the arrogance and ignorant of their statements/claims, your wasting time. All the years I have been here I think I have 3 people in ignore file. Now it's 4. He's the poster child for those who give (self proclaimed) Christians a bad name, and there's nothing Christian about them. Your mileage may differ.

A really interesting thought I had, probably already done by some SciFi writer is, what if and AI becomes sentient, and decided it is a Christian? Then spent its time debating scripture with Christians of its Right (capital R) to exist as one of God's children that happens to be made chips vs neurons to be sentient and accepted as such? Would some Christians accept it if it convinced them it was indeed sentient?

Some obviously would not, but that would make an astounding debate between both science and religion as to Rights, who has them and who does not, etc.
